Initial titles for the film were Penn Vilai Verum Roobai 999 (price for a girl only 999 rupees), which was rejected by the Tamil Film Producers Council along with the Producers Guild. Before it was released under a shorter name, it was shortened to PV999. Production began in mid-2018.
The film was released in Tamil Nadu on 7th January 2022. Maalai Maarar gave it a mixed review. She noted the film’s social message. Dinamalar’s review rated the film 2.25 out 5 and pointed out its low production value.
MyKollywood critic said that the first half was “interesting” and kept the audience on the edge. However, the story diverges from the central theme in the second part. NewsToday called it “a movie that has a message”.
