Gehraiyaan premiered in Amazon Prime Video’s 11 February 2022. The film received mixed to negative reviews from critics. There was praise for the soundtrack, cinematography and performances, with special praise for Padukone’s and Shah’s performances. However, there were criticisms about the storyline, screenplay, and climax.
Alisha Khanna, a yoga instructor aged 30, is trying to create an app. However, she struggles to find investors. Aside from suffering from anxiety due to the suicide of her mother Sonali as a child, she is also estranged her father Vinod. Alisha’s cousin Tia Tia, also known as Tia “Ti”, is engaged to Zain Overoi. She invites them to their Alibaug Beach House. Alisha and Zain share a traumatic past, and they flirt with each others.
Alisha then kisses Karan, regretting her decision. Later, Alisha learns that Tia has read Karan’s draft. This hurts Alisha, who had long been wanting to read it. Zain is allowed back in, and the two begin an affair.
Zain invests his business in Alisha’s app. He tells Alisha that his father was violent to him and his mother. This encouraged him to make the move to America. Alisha agrees to Karan’s proposal. She says goodbye to Zain and focuses on Karan’s new beginnings.
Karan breaks up with her after she discovers that his book was rejected. He also kept this secret from her. Zain and her continue their affair. Zain informs her that he will be ending things with Tia after reinvesting her money in his company. Zain’s firm invests again in Alisha’s app, and provides her with a brand new yoga studio.
